Why we built this Tax Initiative and who we are looking for

The Emmanuel Onyeabor Tax Initiative (EOTI) opened its doors to its first cohort of tax professionals in April 2025, for the inaugural cycles of its virtual three months tax internship and six months tax mentorship programs that end in July and October 2025. These cycles, the first of many, attracted legal and business professionals from various parts of Africa, letting us know we were on the right path.

There is a gap between academia and practice in the global tax space, and EOTI is bridging that gap. This Initiative matches Tax Mentees and Tax Interns in various fields of the profession with Tax Mentors from Africa, Europe, and North America.

The plan was clear from the beginning: to shape the future of tax leadership by equipping the next generation of tax professionals with the skills they need to conquer the global tax space. Taxation, an area that touches on almost every aspect of our lives, is evolutionary, and as such, we have to evolve with it to match global and regional market needs.

To this end, EOTI’s mentors bring to the table their regional and global expertise to ensure that the emerging class of tax practitioners is up to task, whether in International Tax Law & Policy, Tax Technology, Tax Administration & Enforcement, Transfer Pricing, General Corporate Tax, Tax Deal Advisory, Real Estate Tax, and the many other areas that we deal with at EOTI.

One might ask, who is EOTI for? It is for the driven, the curious, the hungry for knowledge, and those without all the answers, but are willing to learn. EOTI is for tax professionals in law, business, and government who are willing to sharpen their knowledge and skills under the guidance of seasoned mentors and grow in one of the most exciting careers in the world.
